WEST SIDE STORY is the award winning adaptation of the Shakespearean classic, Romeo and Juliet. Set in on the streets of New York City in the 1950s we meet two rival gangs – the JETS (a gang of white teenagers) led by Riff, and the SHARKS (the immigrant Puerto Ricans) led by Bernardo.

The gangs fight at any given opportunity and their hatred for one another has reached breaking point – neither can coexist with any form of understanding for their cultural differences. When Riff’s best friend Tony meets Bernardo’s younger sister Maria, no one can do anything to stop their love. With opposition from both sides, they meet in secret and plan to run away together.

In the meantime, the Jets challenge the Sharks to a rumble – Maria sends Tony to stop the fight, but before he can reach the gangs tragedy strikes with Bernardo killing Riff. Tony is so overcome with anger and grief that he retaliates, killing Bernardo instantly. After such devastation, can Maria and Tony have the happily ever after they have dreamed about?
